How it works

An optical-character-recognition engine reads the words in your image and returns them as selectable, copyable text. It runs entirely on your device in your browser — nothing is uploaded, it is free, and it works on any modern browser because it needs no special GPU. The first time you use a language it downloads that language’s data once (a few megabytes) and then caches it. Clear, high-contrast images of printed text read best; heavy handwriting and very low resolution are hard for any OCR.

This tool runs entirely in your browser — your images are never uploaded anywhere. Very large files fall back to our server, and the tool tells you before you run it when that applies. Either way, no account is needed.
